Half full or half empty? Punishment or blessing?

This post sums up pretty well all that needs to be said about the recently-outed unwed pregnancy of Governor Sarah Palin's teenage daughter, Bristol.

Obama considers a baby a punishment. The Palins consider a baby to be a blessing -- even when he or she arrives at an awkward time as the result of poor judgment and (yes) sin.

All I'll add is a call to society in general and the church in particular to teach people (especially young people) that sexual excitement clouds your judgment every bit as much as alcohol. You can intend to just "make out" a little and get carried far, far away.

Chastity is a skill set, not just a mind set. And one of the most important subsets of skills is how to avoid getting yourself into a situation where your hormones trump your judgment and your values.

I could speak of kudos to the Palins for walking the talk, but for those who truly get it, that's not necessary. And as the Palins welcomed little Trig, and are welcoming Bristol's baby, clearly they get it.
